For some states, you will see the term "by ratification" in parentheses. These are the original 13 colonies and were admitted into the union by the act of ratifying the Constitution. Those states joining later needed the specific approval of congress to join the union.
NOTE:At some point in the future, I may add the history leading up to statehood for each of the states. Some states had a rather colorful history, not to mention that several were independent republics before becoming a state, as well as a few that dropped out (or were kicked out) of the union during the Civil War.
Alabama: Admitted to the union December 14th, 1819, as the 22nd state.
Alaska: Admitted to the union January 3rd, 1959, as the 49th state.
Arkansas: Admitted to the union June 15th, 1836, as the 25th state.
California: Admitted to the union September 9th, 1850, as the 31st state.
Colorado: Admitted to the union August 1st, 1876, as the 38th state.
Connecticut: Admitted to the union (by ratification) January 9th, 1788, as the 5th state.
Delaware: Admitted to the union (by ratification) December 7th, 1787, as the 1st state.

Florida: Admitted to the union March 3rd, 1845, as the 27th state.
Georgia: Admitted to the union (by ratification) January 2nd, 1788, as the 4th state.
Hawaii: Admitted to the union August 21st, 1959, as the 50th state.
Idaho: Admitted to the union July 3rd, 1890, as the 43rd state.
Illinois: Admitted to the union December 3rd, 1818, as the 21st state.
Indiana: Admitted to the union December 11th, 1816, as the 19th state.
Iowa: Admitted to the union December 28th, 1846, as the 29th state.
Kansas: Admitted to the union January 29th, 1861, as the 34th state.
Kentucky: Admitted to the union June 1st, 1792, as the 15th state.
Louisiana: Admitted to the union April 30th, 1812, as the 18th state.
Maine: Admitted to the union March 15th, 1820, as the 23rd state.
Maryland: Admitted to the union (by ratification) April 28th, 1788, as the 7th state.
Massachusetts: Admitted to the union (by ratification) February 6th, 1788, as the 6th state.
Michigan: Admitted to the union January 26th, 1837, as the 26th state.
Minnesota: Admitted to the union May 11th, 1858 as the 32nd state.
Missouri: Admitted to the union August 10th, 1821, as the 24th state.
Montana: Admitted to the union November 8th, 1889, as the 41st state.
Nebraska: Admitted to the union March 1st, 1867, as the 37th state.
Nevada: Admitted to the union October 31st, 1864, as the 36th state.
New Hampshire: Admitted to the union (by ratification) June 21st, 1788, as the 9th state,
and the last state needed to adopt the Constitution, thus creating the new nation of
The United States of America.
New Jersey: Admitted to the union (by ratification) December 18th, 1787, as the 3rd state.
New Mexico: Admitted to the union January 6th, 1912, as the 47th state.
New York: Admitted to the union (by ratification) July 26th, 1788, as the 11th state.
North Carolina: Admitted to the union (by ratification) November 21st, 1789, as the 12th state.
North Dakota: Admitted to the union November 2nd, 1889, as the 39th state .
Ohio: Admitted to the union March 1st, 1803, as the 17th state.
Admission finally approved by President Eisenhower on August 7th, 1953.
Oklahoma: Admitted to the union November 16th, 1907, as the 46th state.
Oregon: Admitted to the union February 14th, 1859, as the 33rd state.
Pennsylvania: Admitted to the union (by ratification) December 12th, 1787, as the 2nd state.

Washington: Admitted to the union November 11th, 1889, as the 42nd state.
West Virginia: Admitted to the union June 20th, 1863, as the 35th state.
Wisconsin: Admitted to the union May 29th, 1848, as the 30th state.
Wyoming: Admitted to the union July 10th, 1890, as the 44th state.
