May:

Newsletter: On File.
Program: Continuation of Show and Tell - What have we learned along the way? by Roger Smith.
Marcia Atkins and Nancy McLendon publish the story of William McCoy Burt, superintendent of Douglas County High School, in the Society newsletter.
10th - Chuck Jackson (me, the Web Master) undergoes carotid artery surgery to clear a blockage (discovered during the broncoscopy) on the left side.  Seems like I am simply falling apart, but what can you expect from an 82 year old with a 68 year history of smoking?  I sure hope this is the last thing that needs surgery, at least for a year or two.  I'm getting mighty tired of forced bed rest in very uncomfortable hospital beds in depressing hospital rooms and surrounded by annoying nurses ("Wake up Mr. Jackson, it's time for your sleeping pill!").
Kathryn Bryant (the Web Master's grand-daughter) does it again. She completes her Freshman year at Villa Rica High School with all A's and a 4.0 GPA, all while taking Advanced Courses.  Again, a note to those that may not know, she has never had any grade other than A, in any class, in her entire school career, thus far (9 straight years), during most of which she has been taking the advanced level classes.

June:

Newsletter: On File.
Program: Ancestor to You Instead of You to Ancestor – What I Learned by Researching in Reverse by Sue Carlton.
Marcia Atkins and Nancy McLendon publish the story of Elsie Dodson and Harold Mozley in the Society newsletter.  Harold was Mayor of Douglasville in 1946-47

July:

Newsletter: On File.
Program: The program was an attempt to play a Video of our field trip to Sweetwater Park in 2010, by Elaine Steere.  I say attempt, as technical difficulties (encountered by her assistant, the Web Master) prevented the actual playing of the DVD.  I really need to remember to try things out (under the expected conditions) before going live in front of an audience.  Lesson learned.
Marcia Atkins publishes the story of the mystery of Theodore and Thomas Tyndell - a Change of Identity? in the Society newsletter.
9th - Sandra (Sandy) Whittington, Charter Member and First Vice-President, passes away.  A brief biography is published in the Society newsletter.  Please see her entry on our Memorial Page.
20th - Chuck Jackson (me, the Web Master) reveals that #1 granddaughter (Rachel, the red-head) is pregnant with her second child, my second great-grandchild.  This one will be a girl, due sometime in January.  No name selected at the moment.

August:

Program: Show and Tell by the membership, along with assorted snacks (and the recipes for them).
It was voted to permanently end our participation in the September Saturdays Festival.  We never ealized any benefit from our participation, and the costs kept escalating.
Marcia Atkins, Nelle Wigginton and Nancy McLendon publish the story of The Powell Family and their Grocery Store in the Society newsletter.
28th - The Web Master still cannot play a DVD on his laptop.  I seldom play DVDs, but it worked fine a couple of years ago.  One of the many weekly updates since seems to have broken something.  I will continue to investigate.

September:

Newsletter: On File.
Program: A Field Trip to the Old Campbell County Historical Society Museum is scheduled to replace the regular meeting, but that is soon canceled due to a covid outbreak among the membership.

15th - Web Master and younger daughters family attend the Wings Over North Georgia annual air show in Rome, Georgia.  Having attended a number of military air shows (usually featuring the Navy's Blue Angels) over the years, we found it unimpressive and rather disappointing.

November:

Marcia Atkins publishes Part 1 of the story of the James Thomas Smith family in the Society newsletter.
The Society President (Roger Smith) publishes a few words of praise for the Society Web Site (and the Web Master) in the Society newsletter, as well as urging everyone to take a look at it.  Please do - oh, wait, you must have already, if you're reading this!.  Anyway, Thank You, Roger!

December:

Newsletter: On File.
Program: Annual Christmas Dinner, held at Hudson's Hickory House this year.  I am somewhat surprised this is our first visit, as is is a long time local favorite.
Sue Carlton announced that she had exceeded all expectations for the Wreaths Across America program - with a total of 440 wreaths donated (not all from DCGS, of course).  The society made a donation for 10 wreaths and several members made personal donations for 1 (or more) wreaths.  Apparently things really took off after she got DCGS involved!
Marcia Atkins publishes the story of The Smith House in the Society newsletter.
