Heritage Book of Douglas County
Heritage Book Cover

The Heritage Book of Douglas County - This is our flagship product.  It was entirely produced by the society members.  We are quite proud of it.  It contains articles on the history of Douglas County, many written by DCGS members and many family histories submitted by the families.

Sadly, it is now out of print and no longer available for purchase.  However, many copies have been donated to various libraries across Georgia and some few in Alabama and North Carolina.  For your convenience, we have compiled a list, below, of those libraries.  The list is believed to be complete and accurate (as of February 2025).

First Families Certificates
First Family Certificate

Here is an example of the First Family Certificate.  This certificate is presented to those who can document the presence of their ancestors in Douglas County at the time it was formed, in 1870.  The actual certificate is trimmed in gold and framed.  It makes a beautiful addition to the decor, and a valued family heirloom.  There is no charge for this program, it is totally a gift of the Douglas County Genealogical Society.  The application for a certificate is also on line as a pdf file.  It is available by clicking here, and will open in a new tab.

Please print it out, and follow the instructions at the top of the application.  As soon as your information can be verified, your certificate will be presented, preferably at a society meeting, if you can attend.  Otherwise, it will be either presented at your home, if local, or mailed to you, if not.

Brenda currently holds the record for most First Family Certificates.  Seems her family has been here forever and, apparently, mingled with many of the other original settler families!

And then she married a damn Yankee!.  But he turned out to be a pretty nice guy, and even served a term as President of the Society (2020-2021)!
